Subscription apps and paywalls: StoreKit and Google Play Billing done right

ODEL builds and fixes in-app subscriptions and paywalls for iPhone and Android apps: the plans, trials and offers in App Store Connect and Google Play, StoreKit and Google Play Billing code, restore purchases, a paywall that shows store-loaded prices in every currency, and the disclosures App Review checks. It fits founders launching a paid app and owners whose paywall is rejected, confusing or not converting. You work with the developer who runs subscriptions in ODEL's own apps every day. Everything lives in your accounts and your code. Proof: ChairBook sells monthly, yearly and lifetime plans, Dualify offers weekly, annual and lifetime, Unvay and DREA run store-managed free trials, and Toddly sells weekly, monthly and yearly plans in a kids app, all built and maintained by ODEL with store purchase libraries such as expo-iap and native purchase plugins.

Who it is for

  • Founders launching a subscription app for the first time
  • Apps whose paywall was rejected by App Review
  • Apps that show wrong prices, fail to restore purchases or lose subscribers on Android
  • Owners adding a yearly plan, a trial or a lifetime option to a live app

When we are not the right fit

  • Physical goods or services used outside the app: these use a normal payment provider, not in-app purchase
  • Large teams that want a full growth program with constant paywall A/B testing across many apps: a growth agency or a dedicated in-house role fits better
  • Pricing advice for regulated financial products

What you get

How the project runs

  1. 01

Products, groups, prices and localizations created in your App Store Connect and Play Console.

  3. 03

    Code

Purchase, restore and entitlement logic with StoreKit and Google Play Billing, tested on device.

  4. 04

    Review

Disclosures, terms links and review notes prepared; submission and replies to App Review.

  5. 05

    Measure

Paywall events tracked so you can see where users stop, then optional follow-up changes.

Questions about working with us

What do Apple and Google take from subscriptions?

Apple: you receive 70 percent in a subscriber's first year and 85 percent after one year, or 85 percent from the start if you are in the App Store Small Business Program (up to 1 million USD in proceeds the prior year). Google changed fees in 2026: in the US, UK, EEA, Australia and Japan, auto-renewing subscriptions are 10 percent plus a 5 percent billing fee; other markets stay at 15 percent until the global rollout. Check the official pages for your markets.

Why do paywalls get rejected?

Common reasons are prices or terms that are unclear, missing links to terms and privacy policy, trials that do not state what happens after, products the reviewer cannot reach, and restore purchases missing. Apple lists misleading users (2.3) and incomplete information (2.1) among the most common issues. ODEL checks every product is reachable from the paywall before submission.

How much does subscription work cost?

It depends on the number of plans and platforms, whether you need server-side receipt checks, and whether it is a new build or a fix. ODEL quotes after a short audit or discovery call.

Subscription, lifetime purchase or ads?

It depends on how often people use the app and what it costs to run. Utilities used daily often fit a subscription with a yearly plan; tools used occasionally can sell a lifetime unlock; kids apps in Apple's Kids Category should not include third-party advertising or analytics, with limited exceptions (guideline 1.3). ODEL's own apps use all three models, so the recommendation in your scope comes from running them.

Who owns the app, the source code and the developer accounts?

You do. The app is published under your own Apple and Google developer accounts, the repository is yours, and the written agreement assigns the code and design to you; under US law, for example, a contractor owns the code by default unless there is a written assignment, so ask for that clause from anyone you hire. ODEL is added to your accounts as a team member and can be removed at any time.
